Kumbakonam Kadappa
Serves - 3
The name of the dish itself was quite funny to me as I have never heard of it.This dish is quite simple and very tasty. One of the best side dish for dosa and idly. I personally recommend this side dish for soft dosa/ kal dosa.Ingredients:
Moong dhal - 1/2 cup( cooked)
Potato- 2 medium size
Onion -1 largeTurmeric powder ( optional)- A pinch
Lemon juice - 1 tbsp
Coriander leaves - 1 tbsp
Salt - To taste
To grind :
Coconut - 1/2 cup
Fennel seeds - 1/2 tsp
Green chilli - 2 to 3
Galic -2 cloves
To temper:
Oil - 1 tsp
Cinnamon - 1 inch piece
Bay leaf -1
Curry leaves - few
Mustard seeds - 1/2 tsp
Cumin seeds - 1/2 tsp
Method :
- Pressure cook moong dhal and potatoes.
- Grind the ingredients given under 'to grind'.
- Now in a pan add oil and temper with items mentioned under ' to temper '.
- Then add onion, green chilli and cook till onion turns transparent.Add water ( say 1/2 cup) and bring it to boil.
- Then add cooked moong dhal and mashed potatoes.Add water and salt as required.
- When it comes to boil add the coconut paste and cook till raw smell goes and turn off the gas.
- Finally add lemon juice and garnish with Coriander leaves.
- Serve with dosa or idly.
Notes :
- You can avoid lemon juice and add one tomato. If so add after you add onion.
- I added a pinch of Turmeric powder as I felt the gravy was so white and pale in colour. But generally kadapp will be white in colour so it's up to you to add turmeric powder.
