Chow chow/chayote kootu



Serves-2 to 3

This chow chow kootu was so tasty and was very easy to make. Do try it.

Ingredients:

Chow chow/chayote  -1 no
Moong dhal -1/4+1 tbsp
Green chilli -2 to 3
Onion -1 small
Turmeric powder -1/8 tsp
Coriander leaves- for garnish 
Salt- To taste 

To grind:

  • Coconut -1/4 cup+1tsp
  • Cumin/jeera -1tsp

To temper:

Oil -2 tsp
Mustard seeds-1/4 tsp
Curry leaves - few 
Cumin -1/4 tsp (optional)
Asafoetida - A pinch 

Method:

  •  Peel the outer skin of chow chow and cut it into pieces.
  • In a pressure cooker add washed moong dhal along with green chilli , chow chow, salt and turmeric powder.
  • Add required water and pressure cook for 3 whistles. 
  • Now grind coconut and Cumin into fine paste and add it to chow chow moong dhal mixture.
  • Mix well and allow it to boil for a min. Add coriander leaves.
  • Now while tempering add finely chopped onion and saute till they become soft and then add it to kootu.
  • Serve with hot rice.

                   




Notes:

  • You can also grind green chilli with coconut and Cumin and add it to kootu.
