Radish poriyal
I was quite surprised when I saw this recipe. When I gave a try it was really tasty. Other than boring radish sambar and rafishparatha I felt that this was quite interesting and easy to make. The taste of this poriyal was similar to chow chow poriyal.
Ingredients:
- Radish -3 to 4 medium size ( approximately 400 to 500 gms)
- Turmeric powder -1/4 tsp
- Onion -1
- Salt- To taste
To dry roast and grind:
- Urad dhal - 2 tbsp
- Red chilli - 2 to 4 nos
To temper:
- Oil -2 tsp
- Mustard seeds -1/4 tsp
- Curry leaves - few
- Asafoetida- A pinch
Method:
- Peel the outer skin of radish and cut it into small cubes.
- In a pan temper with items mentioned under 'to temper'. Add chopped onion and saute till onion turns transparent.
- Add chopped radish followed by Turmeric powder, salt and 1/4 cup water.
- Cook it covered.
- Now dry roast Urad dhal and red chilli and make it into a coarse powder.
- When the vegetable is done add 1 &1/2 tsp of this powder. Mix well.
- Serve.
Notes:
- Chopping the radish finely makes it to cook faster.
- Store the extra Urad dhal powder in a air tight container.
- This powder can be used of any other types of poriyal also.
- Add less water as radish by itself has lot of water content.
- Adjust the powder quantity according to the quantity of radish you use.
