Green gram dhal gravy


Serves-3 to 4
This is a no onion no garlic dish. Yet tastes amazing with very less ingredients.

Ingredients:

  • Green gram dhal-3/4 cup
  • Nool khol/ kholrabi-2 
  • Tomato -2 large
  • Sambar powder-1 tsp
  • Red chilli powder-1/2 tsp ( optional)
  • Turmeric powder-1/4 tsp
  • Coriander leaves- for garnish
  • Salt- to taste

To temper:

  • Oil-2 tsp
  • Mustard seeds-1/2 tsp
  • Cumin seeds-1/4 tsp
  • Asafoetida- a pinch

Method:

  • Soak green gram dhal for 4 hours.
  • Chop nool khol into tiny pieces.
  • Pressure cook green gram dhal and nool khol for 2 to 3 whistles.
  • In a pan temper with items mentioned under 'to temper'.
  • Then add chopped tomato, turmeric powder,salt,red chilli powder and cook till tomato turns mushy.
  • Then add sambar powder, little water.
  • When it comes to boil add cooked dhal and vegetable.
  • Let it boil for another 2 to 3 mins.
  • Garnish with coriander leaves And serve hot with chapathi.
  • Goes well as an accompaniment with rice dishes too.







Notes:

  • Do not over cook dhal and vegetable.
  • You can add other spices, onion, garlic of you prefer.
