Green gram dhal gravy
Ingredients:
- Green gram dhal-3/4 cup
- Nool khol/ kholrabi-2
- Tomato -2 large
- Sambar powder-1 tsp
- Red chilli powder-1/2 tsp ( optional)
- Turmeric powder-1/4 tsp
- Coriander leaves- for garnish
- Salt- to taste
To temper:
- Oil-2 tsp
- Mustard seeds-1/2 tsp
- Cumin seeds-1/4 tsp
- Asafoetida- a pinch
Method:
- Soak green gram dhal for 4 hours.
- Chop nool khol into tiny pieces.
- Pressure cook green gram dhal and nool khol for 2 to 3 whistles.
- In a pan temper with items mentioned under 'to temper'.
- Then add chopped tomato, turmeric powder,salt,red chilli powder and cook till tomato turns mushy.
- Then add sambar powder, little water.
- When it comes to boil add cooked dhal and vegetable.
- Let it boil for another 2 to 3 mins.
- Garnish with coriander leaves And serve hot with chapathi.
- Goes well as an accompaniment with rice dishes too.
Notes:
- Do not over cook dhal and vegetable.
- You can add other spices, onion, garlic of you prefer.
