Broad beans ( Avarakkai) poriyal



Ingredients:

  • Broad beans/ Avarakai- 2 cups ( chopped)
  • Red chilli powder- 1/4 tsp
  • Turmeric powder- 1/8 tsp
  • Coconut ( grated)-2 tbsp
  • Salt - to taste

To temper:

  • Oil- 1 tsp
  • Mustard seeds - 1/4 tsp
  • Urad dhal- 1 tsp
  • Curry leaves- a spring
  • Asafoetida- Few pinches

Method:

  • In a pan temper with items mentioned under 'to temper'. Add the chopped broad beans, sprinkle some water and cook it covered in a low flame.
  • Ever now and then stir it and and add water if required.
  • Once the vegetable is cooked add in all the spice powders, salt and mix well.
  • Finally add grated coconut and saute for one more min.
  • Serve.



Notes:

  • You can avoid coconut.
