Vazhakkai / raw banana podimas
Serves -2
Ingredients:
- Raw banana / Vazhakkai -1
- Onion -1 large
- Green chilli -1
- Coconut scrapping -2 tbsp
- Salt - To taste
To temper:
- Oil -1 tbsp
- Mustard seeds- 1/4 tsp
- Urad dhal -1/2 tsp
- Curry leaves - a spring
- Asafoetida- A pinch
Method:
- Cut raw banana into half and pressure cook for 2 whistles.( Do not add water and do not feel it's skin off)
- After it cools down you can very easily remove the skin off. It should be only half done. Now grate the banana with a grater.
- In a pan temper with items mentioned under 'to temper'.
- Add onion , green chilli and saute till onion gets cooked.
- Now add in the grated raw banana and mix well. Add salt.
- Finally add grated coconut, stir for a minand turn off the gas.
Notes:
- If your raw banana turns soggy then your podimas will be a disaster. Just one or two whistles will be more than enough.
