Vazhakkai / raw banana podimas


Serves -2

Ingredients:

  • Raw banana / Vazhakkai -1
  • Onion -1 large
  • Green chilli -1
  • Coconut scrapping -2 tbsp
  • Salt - To taste

To temper:

  • Oil -1 tbsp
  • Mustard seeds- 1/4 tsp
  • Urad dhal -1/2 tsp
  • Curry leaves - a spring
  • Asafoetida- A pinch

Method:

  • Cut raw banana into half and pressure cook for 2 whistles.( Do not add water and do not feel it's skin off)
  • After it cools down you can very easily remove the skin off. It should be only half done. Now grate the banana with a grater.
  • In a pan temper with items mentioned under 'to temper'.
  • Add onion , green chilli and saute till onion gets cooked. 
  • Now add in the grated raw banana and mix well. Add salt.
  • Finally add grated coconut, stir for a minand turn off the gas.





Notes:

  • If your raw banana turns soggy then your podimas will be a disaster. Just one or two whistles will be more than enough.
