Elephant foot yam poriyal:


Serves -2

Ingredients:

  • Elephantr foot yam/(karunai kizhangu) -1 cup chopped into small cubes
  • Red chilli powder -3/4 tsp
  • Turmeric powder -1/4 tsp
  • Tamarind water -1/4 cup
  • Salt -To taste

To temper:

  • Oil -2 tsp
  • Mustard seeds -1/4 tsp
  • Urad dhal -1/2 tsp
  • Curry leaves -Few
  • Asafoetida -A generous pinch

Method:

  • Clean the yam and chop it into small cubes.
  • Cook the yam three fourth by adding salt, turmeric powder and little tamarind water.
  • Now in a pan temper with items given under to temper and add 3/4 th cooked yam.
  • When it its fully done add red chilli powder.Mix well and serve.






Notes:

  • Apply oil in your hands when you are chopping yam as it may cause itching tendency.
