Vermicelli/semiya payasam


Serves -2 to 3
One of the best and easy payasam to make during festive occassion is vermicelli /semia payasam

Ingredients:

  • Vermicelli/Semiya -1 cup
  • Ghee -2 tsp
  • Cashew nuts -7-8
  • Raisins -7-8
  • Elachi/cardamom powder -1/4 tsp
  • Saffron -A pinch (optional)
  • Milk -2 to 3 cups
  • Condensed milk -1/4 cup(optional)
  • Sugar -To taste

Method:

  • In a pan roast vermicelli with a tsp of ghee.
  • Boil it with water till it becomes soft.
  • Now add milk to it and allow it to boil for few more mins.Add saffron .
  • Turn off the flame and add condensed milk,elachi/Cardamom powder and sugar.
  • Fry cashews and raisins in ghee.Add this to the payasam.
  • Mix well and serve.







Notes:

  • Adding saffron gives excellent flavor.
  • Add sugar according to the sweetness you prefer.
  • Reduce 2&1/2 cups of  milk to 2 or 1&1/2 cups and then add to the payasam so that you can avoid condensed milk and payasam will also have a good taste.
  • If payasam is very thick add more milk.
  • Adding condensed milk gives a rich flavor.
