Barnyard millet/ Kuthiraivalli idli and dosa

Ingredients:

  • Barnyard millet/ Kuthiraivalli- 2cups
  • Poha/ aval-1/2 cup
  • Fenugreek seeds/ Vendhayam -1 tsp
  • Urad dhal- 1/2 cup
  • Salt - As needed

Method:

  • Soak Urad dhal and rest of the items separately for 3 to 4 hours.( wash millet twice or thrice before soaking)
  • Grind them in a mixie or wet grinder.
  • Grind Urad dhal separately. Do not add more water while grinding millet mixture.
  • Add salt and mix well.
  • Leave them for overnight fermentation.
  • Make dosa and idly with the Batter. 




Notes:

  • Initially the millet mixture will be quite runny but it will be ok after fermentation.
  • Though I addied very less water while grinding my millet mixture was quite runny but the next day it got fermented and was in right consistency.
  • Add more water while grinding Urad dhal. Urad dhal batter must not be stiff.
