Barnyard millet/ Kuthiraivalli pongal

When I made this barnyard millet pongal I personally felt that it was much better than regular pongal. I loved the taste.Do try this healthy pongal.

Ingredients:

  • Barnyard millet/ Kuthiraivalli- 1 cup
  • Moong dhal- 1/2 cup 
  • Salt - To taste 

To temper:

  • Ghee- 3 tbsp 
  • Whole pepper - 1 tsp
  • Cumin- 1 tsp
  • Ginger chopped - 1 tsp
  • Curry leaves - few
  • Asafoetida - 1/8 tsp
  • Cashew nut- 7 to 8

Method:

  • Wash millet twice and also wash moong dhal. 
  • Add 3&1/2 cups of water and pressure cook for 3 to 4 whistles.
  • once done mash it well, add salt and temper with items mentioned.
  • Serve hot with sambar or chutney.



Notes:

  • The regular water measurement for this millet is 1:1&1/2. That is for 1 cup millet add 1&1/2 cup water. So for pongal you can add 2 or 2 &1/2 cups of water.
