Salem style Tomato kuruma
Serves-3
Ingredients:
Oil-2 tsp
Mustard seeds-1/4 tsp
Onion-1
Curry leaves- few
Coriander leaves- for garnish
Salt- to taste
To roast and grind:
- Oil-1 tsp
- Garlic-4 to 5 cloves
- Ginger-1 inch piece
- Fennel seeds-1/4 tsp
- Poppy seeds-1/4 tsp
- Cumin-1/4 tsp
- Cloves-2
- Cinnamon-1 small piece
- Green chilli -1
- Shallots-5
- Bengal gram- 2 tsp
- Tomato -3 nos
- Coconut scrapping -2 tbsp
- Turmeric powder-1/4 tsp
- Red chilli powder-1 tsp
- Coriander powder-1&1/2 tsp
Method:
- In pan add oil.
- First add all the masala ingredients and shallots
- Then add tomato.
- Once tomato turns mushy add coconut and spice powders.
- Mix well. Turn off the flame. Allow it to cool.
- Transfer it to a mixer and grind it to a fine paste .
- Now in a pan add 2 tsp oil followed by mustard seeds, curry leaves and bay leaf.
- Then add finely chopped onion
- Then add the ground paste.
- Add required water to the consistency you prefer.
- Close the lid and cook in a low flame for about 10 mins.
- Garnish with coriander leaves.
- Serve hot with poori/ chapathi/ appam.
Notes:
- Can make this with regular onion too.
