Salem style Tomato kuruma



Serves-3

Ingredients:

Oil-2 tsp
Mustard seeds-1/4 tsp
Onion-1
Curry leaves- few
Coriander leaves- for garnish
Salt- to taste

To roast and grind:

  • Oil-1 tsp
  • Garlic-4 to 5 cloves
  • Ginger-1 inch piece
  • Fennel seeds-1/4 tsp
  • Poppy seeds-1/4 tsp
  • Cumin-1/4 tsp
  • Cloves-2
  • Cinnamon-1 small piece
  • Green chilli -1
  • Shallots-5
  • Bengal gram- 2 tsp
  • Tomato -3 nos
  • Coconut scrapping -2 tbsp
  • Turmeric powder-1/4 tsp
  • Red chilli powder-1 tsp
  • Coriander powder-1&1/2 tsp

Method:

  • In pan add oil.
  • First add all the masala ingredients and shallots
  • Then add tomato.
  • Once tomato turns mushy add coconut and spice powders.
  • Mix well. Turn off the flame. Allow it to cool.
  • Transfer it to a mixer and grind it to a fine paste .
  • Now in a pan add 2 tsp oil followed by mustard seeds, curry leaves and bay leaf.
  • Then add finely chopped onion
  • Then add the ground paste.
  • Add  required water to the consistency you prefer.
  • Close the lid and cook in a low flame for about 10 mins.
  • Garnish with coriander leaves.
  • Serve hot with poori/ chapathi/ appam.






Notes:

  • Can make this with regular onion too.
