Upma(for fasting)

We make this upma during fasting times.Especially on ekadesi times. I love this upma and goes best with sugar or pickle.So easy to make with no much ingredients.

Ingredients:

  • Rava/Sooji -1 cup
  • Green chilli -4 os
  • Curd -2 tbsp 
  • Grated coconut-2 tbsp
  • Asafoetida -A pinch
  • Coriander leaves -1 tbsp
  • Salt -to taste

To temper:

  • Oil-2 tsp
  • Mustard seeds-1/4 tsp
  • Urad dhal -1/2 tsp
  • Channa dhal -1/2 tsp
  • Curry leaves -1 spring

Method:

  • Dry roast rava/sooji for about 2 minutes till you get nice aroma. This avoids formation of lumps while making upma.
  • In a pan temper with items given under 'to temper'.
  • Then add green chilli followed by 2 cups of water(or add more if it requires) and coconut gratings and curd.
  • Add salt,coriander leaves, when it comes to boil add rava/sooji and mix well so that there are no lumps.
  • Close the pan cook till done in low flame.
  • Serve with sugar/pickle &curd.





Notes:

  • Adding coconut and curd gives good flavour and taste as we don't add anything else in this.
  • Add more water if needed.
