One pot sambar
Serves-3-4
Ingredients:
- Toor dhall-1/4 cup
- Moong dhal-1/4 cup
- Small onion-10
- Tomato-2
- Mixed vegetables -1/2 cup
- Turmeric powder-1/4 tsp
- Sambar powder-2 tsp
- Curry leaves- few
- Coriander leaves -for garnish
- Tamarind extract- 2 tbsp
- Jaggery-1/4 tsp( optional)
- Salt -to taste
To temper:
- Oil-2 tsp
- Mustard seeds- 1/4 tsp
- Asafoetida- fee pinches
Method:
- Wash dhal . onioThen addn, tomato,curry leaves,turmeric powder,salt.
- Add 2 cups of water mix well and pressure cook for4 whistles.
- Once done mash all the mixture together.
- Add tamarind extract l,sambar powder and jaggery and allow it to boil. Add water to the consistency you prefer. Check for salt.
- Finally temper as mentioned.Add coriander leaves for garnish.
- Serve hot with idly,dosa,uthappam.
Notes:
- Add drumstick for better taste and flavour.
- Can add big onion too.
- If your tomato is sour enough you can add less tamarind extract or skip it too.
- Adjust water and spices to the quantity of Vegetables and dhal you add.
- You can first temper in cooker and then add all the ingredients and cook.
- But tempering at last gives a better flavour.
