Pudhina/ mint chutney

Ingredients:

  • Mint leaves- 2 cups
  • Green chilli-5
  • Urad dhal-2 tbsp
  • Coconut-2 tbsp
  • Tamarind- 1 TSP
  • Turmeric powder-1/4 tsp
  • Oil-1 tsp
  • salt- to taste

To temper:

  • Oil-2 Tsp
  • Mustard seeds-1/4 tsp
  • Asafoetida- fee pinches

Method:

  • Wash and drain the mint leaves.
  • In a pan add oil followed by urad dhal. When irad dhal turns golden brown in colour add roughly chopped green chilli,tamarind.
  • Saute for 30 secs and add mint leaves,salt, turmeric. Saute for a minute till the leaves reduces in volume.
  • Now turn off the flame and transfer to a mixer and add coconut gratings.
  • Once it cools down add required water and grind to chutney consistency.
  • Now temper with items mentioned above.
  • Goes well with idly and dosa.






Notes:

  • Green chilli and tamarind gives you very good taste.
  • But you can also add lemon juice and avoid tamarind.
  • You can add one shallot (raw) for a change in taste.
