Bottle gourd kootu


Serves -3

Ingredients:

  • Bottle gourd -1 medium size
  • Moong dhal- 1/2 cup+1 tbsp
  • Coconut -1/2 cup grated
  • Turmeric powder -1/8 tsp
  • Cumin-1 tsp
  • Green chilli-3 to 4
  • Curry leaves- few
  • Coriander leaves-1 tbsp
  • Oil-1 tsp
  • Mustard seeds- 1/2 tap
  • Asafoetida- a generous pinch
  • Salt-to taste

Method:

  • Wash the bottle gourd peel off the skin and remove the white flesh part of it.
  • Chop it into cubes.
  • In a pressure cooker add moong dhal, chopped bottle gourd,turmeric powder, salt ,2 cups of water and pressure cook for 3 whistles or till the moong dhal gets cooked.
  • Now grind coconut,cumin and green chilli to a fine paste.
  • Add this ground mixture to the cooked moong dhal. Mix well add required water,salt.
  • When it comes to boil turn off the flame ,add coriander leaves and temper it with mustard seeds, curry leaves , asafoetida.
