Dhal
Serves -3
One of the easiest and tasty side dish for chapathi is dhal. During ekadasi times my mom used to make this as this has no onion and no garlic in it.
Ingredients:
- Moong dhal -1/2cup
- Tomato -1
- Spinach/any leafy vegetable -1 handfull (optional)
- Coriander leaves -1 handful
- Green chilli -3 nos
- Water -1&1/2 cup
- Lemon -1/2 (optional)
- Turmeric powder -1/4 tsp
- Salt -To taste
To temper:
- Oil -2 tsp
- Mustard seeds -1/4 tsp
- Urad dhal -1/2 tsp
- Curry leaves -Few
- Asafoetida -A generous pinch
Method:
- Add all the above main ingredients in a vessel add water and pressure cook it for 3 whistles.
- Once it is done mash it well and temper it with items given under 'to temper'.
- Squeeze lemon finally.
- Serve with roti/chappathi.
Notes:
- Adding coriander leaves gives a good flavour to the dhal.
- Adding spinach or any leafy vegetable is absolutely optional.
- Add more water if necessary.
