Garlic dhal

This is same as dhal which I have posted before.Actually my husband told me this recipe when i was making dhal for chappathi. He told me that when he was in US (Of course he was a bachelor ;)) he used to make dhal and temper it with garlic and onion. So I too tried this and tasted good.

Ingredients:

  • Moong dhal -1/2cup
  • Tomato -1
  • Coriander leaves -1 handful
  • Green chilli -3 nos
  • Water -1&1/2 cup
  • Lemon -1/2 (optional)
  • Turmeric powder -1/4 tsp
  • Salt -To taste

To temper:

  • Oil -2 tsp
  • Mustard seeds -1/4 tsp
  • Urad dhal -1/2 tsp
  • Onion -1 
  • Garlic -5-6 pods
  • Curry leaves -Few
  • Asafoetida -A generous pinch

Method:

  • Add all the above main ingredients in a vessel add water and pressure cook it for 3 whistles.
  • Finely chop onion and garic.
  • Once the dhal is done mash it  well and temper it with items given under 'to temper'.
  • Squeeze lemon finally.
  • Serve with roti/chappathi.






Notes:

You can include any leafy vegetable as you wish.
