Vermicelli (Semiya) Pongal


Serves -1 or 2

When there is rava pongal why not semiya/Vermicelli Pongal. Quite easy to make and tasty too..Those who love pongal and semiya/vermicelli will definitely like this.

Ingredients:

  • Vermicelli/Semiya -1 cup
  • Moong dhal -1/2 cup
  • Water -2 to 2&1/2 cups
  • Turmeric powder -1/4 tsp(optional)
  • Green chilli -2 (optional)
  • Salt -To taste

To Temper:

  • Ghee -3 tbsp
  • Cumin -1 tsp
  • Ginger -1 inch piece
  • Pepper -1 tsp
  • Curry leaves -Few
  • Cashew nuts -Few


Method:

  • Roast vermicelli/semiya with little oil/ghee and keep aside.
  • In a pan add water and moong dhal. Cook till moong dhal becomes soft.
  • Now add Vermicelli,salt and mix well(Add more water if vermicelli is uncooked).
  • Now in a pan temper with items given under 'to temper'.
  • Add this to the pongal and mix well.
  • Serve with coconut chutney/sambar.





Notes:

  • You can also add pressure cooked moong dhal.
  • Instead of adding pepper as whole you can add crushed/powdered pepper.
  • I added ginger pieces at the beginning stage itself (With moong dhal).
