Vermicelli (Semiya) Pongal

When there is rava pongal why not semiya/Vermicelli Pongal. Quite easy to make and tasty too..Those who love pongal and semiya/vermicelli will definitely like this.
Ingredients:
- Vermicelli/Semiya -1 cup
- Moong dhal -1/2 cup
- Water -2 to 2&1/2 cups
- Turmeric powder -1/4 tsp(optional)
- Green chilli -2 (optional)
- Salt -To taste
To Temper:
- Ghee -3 tbsp
- Cumin -1 tsp
- Ginger -1 inch piece
- Pepper -1 tsp
- Curry leaves -Few
- Cashew nuts -Few
Method:
- Roast vermicelli/semiya with little oil/ghee and keep aside.
- In a pan add water and moong dhal. Cook till moong dhal becomes soft.
- Now add Vermicelli,salt and mix well(Add more water if vermicelli is uncooked).
- Now in a pan temper with items given under 'to temper'.
- Add this to the pongal and mix well.
- Serve with coconut chutney/sambar.
Notes:
- You can also add pressure cooked moong dhal.
- Instead of adding pepper as whole you can add crushed/powdered pepper.
- I added ginger pieces at the beginning stage itself (With moong dhal).
