Cabbage poriyal


Serves -2

Ingredients:

  • Cabbage -2 cups ( chopped or grated)
  • Green chilli -1
  • Coconut grated -1/4 cup
  • Onion -1(small)
  • Turmeric powder -1/4 tsp ( optional)
  • Salt - To taste 

To temper :

  • Oil -2 tsp
  • Mustard seeds-1/2 tsp
  • Urad dhal-1/2 tsp
  • Cumin/ jeera -1/2 tsp
  • Curry leaves - few
  • Asafoetida- A pinch 

Method :

  •  Grate Cabbage or chop them as fine as possible.
  • in a pan temper with items mentioned above and add sliced onion and green chilli.
  • When onion turns transparent add grated Cabbage. Add salt and turmeric powder, mix well and cook covered in a medium flame( add 3 tbsp of water if necessary).
  • When Cabbage is cooked add coconut and stir well and turn off the flame.




Notes :

  •  You can add Fennel seeds if you like the flavour.
  • Do not add more water as water content in the grated Cabbage is itself more than enough. 
  • I prefer grating the Cabbage as it gets cooked very fast.
