Kovakai/ tindora gravy


This gravy is so tasty and so easy to make. I got this recipe from ' amma samayal' a you tube channel.

Serves -2

Ingredients:

  • Kovakai / tindora - 1 cup( chopped verticaly)
  • Onion -1
  • Tomato-1&1/2
  • Garlic - 2 to 3 cloves
  • Red chilli powder - 1 tsp
  • Coriander powder - 1&1/2 tsp
  • Turmeric powder-1/4 tsp
  • Oil -1 tsp
  • Salt - To taste 

To temper :

  • Oil -3 tsp
  • Mustard seeds-1/2 tsp
  • Fenugreek seeds- 1/4 tsp
  • Urad dhal -1/2 tsp
  • Curry leaves - few 
  • Asafoetida/ L.G - A pinch

Method :

  • Slice kovakai/ tindora vertically.
  • In a pan add 1 tsp Oil and saute onion and garlic.
  • When onion  turns transparent add tomato and spice powders.
  • Saute till tomato turns mushy.
  • Cool it and grind it to a fine paste.
  • now in a pan temper with items given under to temper and add kovakai.
  • Saute till kovakai turns soft.(sprinkle little water if needed).
  • Then add the tomato masala and cook for 7 to 10 mins in a medium flame.
  • Serve hot with rice.






Notes :

  • Adjust tomato according to its  tanginess. ( I used 1/2 onion and 1 tomato).
