Idli upma

There are lot of variations in making idli upma. You can use freshly made or left over idli. For best results refrigerate idli and bring them to room temperature before making upma. 

Ingredients:

  • Idli -4 nos
  • Onion-1
  • Green chilli -1
  • Turmeric powder -1/8 tsp
  • Coriander  leaves - for garnish
  • Salt - to taste 

To temper:

  • Oil-2 tsp
  • Mustard seeds -1/4 tsp
  • Channa dhal-1 /2 tsp
  • Urad dhal -1/2 tsp
  • Curry leaves - a spring
  • Asafoetida-A generous pinch

Method:

  • In a pan add oil and temper with items mentioned under 'to temper'.
  • Then add finely chopped onion and green chilli.
  • Add required salt,turmeric powder and when onion becomes soft add the crumbled idli.
  • Mix well and cook for about a min.
  • Serve hot.




Notes:

  • Turmeric powder is optional. 
  • Since I don't like white colour idli upma I use turmeric powder.
  • Some add red chilli powder and avoid green chilli. So variation of this upma is completely one's choice.
  • Goes well with sambar, coconut chutney.
