Rice upma



This is a no onion , no garlic dish. Tastes good and easy too...

Serves-2

Ingredients:

  • Raw rice -1 cup
  • Channa dhal - 1 tbsp
  • Whole black pepper-1/2 tsp
  • Cumin-1/2  tsp
  • Green chilli -2 
  • Coconut scrapping- 1 tbsp ( optional)
  • Coriander leaves- for garnish
  • Salt - to taste

To temper:

  • Oil-2 tsp
  • Channa dhal-1/2 tsp
  • Urad dhal -1/2 tsp
  • Mustard seeds-1/4 tsp
  • Cumin -1/4 tsp
  • Curry leaves- a spring
  • Asafoetida- few pinches

Method:

  • Grind rice, black pepper and cumin in a mixie to rava consistency.
  • In a pressure cooker or heavy bottomed pan add 2 tsp of oil and temper with items mentioned under'to temper'. Add green chilli.
  • When dhal turns golden brown add 2&1/4 cups of water , salt and coconut scrapping.
  • When it comes to boil add the ground rice mixture.
  • Keep the flame in medium ,add coriander leaves , mix well and pressure cook for 3 whistles.
  • If cooking in pan close it with a lid and stir occasionally.
  • Tastes best when served  hot.







Notes:

  • You can adjust the water quantity to the consistency of upma you prefer.
