Rice upma
This is a no onion , no garlic dish. Tastes good and easy too...
Serves-2
Ingredients:
- Raw rice -1 cup
- Channa dhal - 1 tbsp
- Whole black pepper-1/2 tsp
- Cumin-1/2 tsp
- Green chilli -2
- Coconut scrapping- 1 tbsp ( optional)
- Coriander leaves- for garnish
- Salt - to taste
To temper:
- Oil-2 tsp
- Channa dhal-1/2 tsp
- Urad dhal -1/2 tsp
- Mustard seeds-1/4 tsp
- Cumin -1/4 tsp
- Curry leaves- a spring
- Asafoetida- few pinches
Method:
- Grind rice, black pepper and cumin in a mixie to rava consistency.
- In a pressure cooker or heavy bottomed pan add 2 tsp of oil and temper with items mentioned under'to temper'. Add green chilli.
- When dhal turns golden brown add 2&1/4 cups of water , salt and coconut scrapping.
- When it comes to boil add the ground rice mixture.
- Keep the flame in medium ,add coriander leaves , mix well and pressure cook for 3 whistles.
- If cooking in pan close it with a lid and stir occasionally.
- Tastes best when served hot.
Notes:
- You can adjust the water quantity to the consistency of upma you prefer.
