Beetroot Pulao

Pulao made out of beetroot!?!?!?!I was quite astonished when I came across this recipe.I also thought that beetroot would spoil the entire dish due to its colour and taste.But when I tried this out it came out perfect.Tasted great.Do not miss this pulao.

Ingredients:

  • Beetroot -1/2 cup
  • Peas -1/4-1/2 cup
  • Basmati rice -1 cup
  • Coconut milk -1&1/2 cup
  • Red chilli powder -1 tsp
  • Coriander powder -1&1/4 tsp
  • Turmeric powder -1/4 tsp
  • Green chilli -2
  • Coriander leaves -2 tsp
  • Onion -1
  • Oil -2 tbsp
  • Cardamom -1
  • Cloves -2
  • Bay leaf -1
  • Cinnamon -1 small stick
  • Ginger garlic paste -1 tsp
  • Salt -To taste

Method:

  • Soak basmati rice for 30 mins.
  • In a pan add oil followed by whole garam masala.Then add sliced onions, salt and saute well.
  • Then add ginger garlic paste,saute till raw smell disappears.
  • Now add beetroot and peas.Saute for 3 mins.
  • Then add all the spice powders.Saute well.
  • In 1&1/2 cup of lukewarm water mix 3 tbsp of coconut milk powder,
  • Add this to the beetroot mixture.
  • When it comes to boil add the soaked basmati rice and coriander leaves.
  • If you are pressure cooking cook for 3 whistles.
  • Serve with onion raita.









Notes:

  • I used frozen peas and rice cooker for cooking.
  • I used one small sized beetroot.
  • Soaking basmati rice gives you long and soft grains.
