Asoka Halwa

I have never heard of asoka halwa until  I saw this recipe in net..I was very much surprised seeing the recipe.Tried it and came out perfect.You can never go wrong in making this.  

Ingredients:

  • Moong dhal -1/2 cup
  • Sugar -1 cup
  • Ghee -1/4 cup
  • Wheat flour -1 tbsp
  • Cashewnut - 5-7 nos
  • Food colour - 1 pinch
  • Cardomom  -1/4 tsp

Method:

  • Pressure cook moong dhal with three cups of water and mash it to very fine paste.
  • Melt sugar with cardomom with little water and make a syrup.(No string consistency is required)
  • In a pan add 3tbsp of ghee and add masoor dhal mix stir well.
  • Add wheat flour and mix well, When it thickens add sugar syrup little by little till it incorporates fully.Add food colour and mix well.
  • Now add ghee little by little till the halwa leaves the pan.
  • Add cashews fried in ghee.














Notes:

  • You can add more ghee if you feel this is less
  • You can also first fry wheat flour in ghee till raw smell goes and then add moong dhal to it.
  • You can add maida instead of wheat flour.
  • Remember moong dhal mix should be very smooth for smooth halwa.
  • Use a non stick pan.
