Gravy Sundal

I tasted this gravy sundal once in a shop located in Mylapore,  From that time onwards this became one of my favourite.After searching a lot in internet I finally found this recipe and tried it. To my surprise it came out very well.Tasted excellent!!!!. Actually this will taste even more better if u have it with small samosa.You can have this as a side dish for roti/phulkas/chappathi also.

Ingredients:

  • Yellow peas -1 Big cup
  • Onion -2
  • Tomato -2
  • Ginger garlic paste -1 tsp
  • Green chilli -2 nos
  • Coriander leaves -1 Handful
  • Turmeric Powder -1/4 tsp
  • Red chilli powder -1/2 tsp
  • Coriander powder -1/2 tsp
  • Besan/Gram flour -1/2 tsp
  • Mustard seeds -1/4 tsp                       
  • Salt -To taste
  • Oil -4 tsp

Method:

  • Soak Yellow peas overnight. Add salt and pressure cook it for three whistles.
  • In a pan add oil,mustard seeds, finely chopped green chilli and 1&1/2 onion
  • Saute for 2 mins and then add Ginger garlic paste.
  • Add finely chopped tomato and cook till tomato turns mushy.
  • Now add turmeric powder,coriander powder,red chilli powder, salt and cook till raw flavour disappears.
  • Add water and let it boil.
  • Mix besan flour with little water and add it to the gravy.
  • Now add cooked yellow peas and stir well.
  • Finally add coriander leaves.
  • Just before you serve add finely chopped onion and coriander on top of the gravy.











Notes:

  • You can reduce green chilli and increase red chilli powder
  • If the gravy is watery mash the peas using mixer and add it.
  • While adding salt be cautious as peas has salt in it.
