Kerala Kadala Curry
Serves-4
Usually we make sundal out of this black channa or normal north indian type gravy,I got bored of it and searched for some different recipe.I saw this in Vah re Vah website. Very tasty yummy gravy.Goes perfect with chapathi/phulkas/roti.
Ingredients:
- Black channa -1cup
- Coconut scrappings -1/4 cup
- Coconut pieces-Few
- Green chilli -1
- Ginger -1 inch piece
- Oil -1 tbsp
- Mustared seeds -1/4 tsp
- Whole red chilli -1
- Coriander powder -1&1/4 tsp
- Red chilli powder -1 tsp
- Turmeric powder -1/4 tsp
- Garam masala -1/4 tsp
- Onion -1 large
- Tomato -1 large
- Coriander leaves -2 tbsp
Method:
- Soak 1 cup channa dhal over night and pressure cook it with salt and turmeric powder for 3-4 whistles.
- In a pan add coconut scrappings and roast it well.Then add all spice powders.
- Add finely chopped tomato and saute for 2 mins.
- Grind it to fine paste adding water.
- Now in a pan add oil,mustard seeds and red chilli.
- Then add onion and saute till it turns soft.Add ginger pieces.
- Now add green chilli,and grinded paste.
- Now add cooked channa dhal with the water in which it got cooked.Add salt.
- Allow it to boil and finally add coriander leaves.
Notes:
- You can add coconut oil instead of refined oil.
- Take care while adding salt as channa dhal contains salt in it.
- The coconut pieces added gives nice crunchy feeling when we eat.(But its purely optional.)
