Mango rasam

I felt quite surprised when I heard about this recipe.Instead of having usual paruppu rasam and garlic rasam this type of rasam really kindled my taste buds and forced me to try.So I tried it.It was really good.

Ingredients:

  • Raw mango -1(small size)
  • Green chilli -2
  • Turmeric powder -1/4 tsp
  • Curry leaves-1 spring
  • Coriander leaves -2 tsp
  • Salt -To taste

For making rasam powder:

  • Oil -2 tsp
  • Red chilli -2 nos
  • Coriander seeds 1 tsp
  • Cumin/Jeera -1 tsp
  • Whole black pepper -1/2 tsp

To temper:

  • Ghee -1/2 tsp
  • Mustard seeds -1/2 tsp
  • Asafoetida -A pinch

Method:

  • Peel the skin of mango and cut into pieces.
  • Slit the green chilli and pressure cook it with 2 cups of water.
  • Cool it down and mash it .Pass it through seive and make a clear puree out of it.
  • In a pan add little oil and roast the ingredients of 'rasam powder' one by one and make it acoarse powder.
  • Add 1&1/2 tsp of this  powder to mango puree,add two cups of water,salt and curry leaves and bring it to boil.
  • Temper it with items given under'to temper'.Add coriander leaves finally.
  • Serve hot with rice and pappad.







Notes:

  • Add water according to the sourness of mango.
