Mango thokku
Serves-4
Oh my God!!! My most favourite dish in this world is Mango Thokku.... Once in my childhood my grandmother did this and from that time on wards I'm addicted to it .So whenever Mango season comes, sure this dish will be made by my mom. Very sour mango suits this thokku. Never miss this mouthwatering dish.
Ingredients:
- Raw mango -1 cup(grated)
- Sesame oil -1/4 cup
- Mustard seeds -1/4 tsp
- Asafoetida -1/4 tsp
- Red chilli powder -2 tbsp
- Turmeric powder -1/4 tsp
- Fenugreek seeds -1/4 tsp
- Salt - To taste
- Jaggery -1/4 tsp
Method:
- Grate mango and keep it ready.
- In a pan add oil,mustard seeds.When it pops add fenugreek seeds.
- Then add asafoetida and grated mango.
- Saute for a while and then add red chilli powder, turmeric powder and salt.
- Allow it to cook in medium flame till oil oozes out.
- Finally add jaggery and turn off the gas.
- Serve it with plain rice or curd rice.(Goes well with any rice varieties).
Notes:
- Sesame oil tastes best but you can add sunflower oil also.
- For good colour you can add kashmiri chilli powder.
- 'GUNDU MAANGA' (Mango will be round in shape) suits best for this dish.
- Increase or decrease salt and red chilli powder according to the sourness of mango.
- Refrigerate it and it can be used for about a week.
