Pineapple rasam



Serves-3

Ingredients:

  • Pineapple -2 large pieces 
  • Toor dhal -1/4 cup
  • Rasam powder -2 tsp
  • Tamrind - size of a lemon
  • Turmeric powder -1/2 tsp
  • Pineapple essence - Few drops
  • Salt -To taste
  • Coriander - For garnish
  • Curry leaves - 1 spring

To temper:

  • Ghee -2 tsp
  • Mustard seeds -1/2 tsp
  • Asafoetida -1/4 tsp
  • Red chilli -1 no.

Method:

  • Pressure cook toor dhal with 2 cups of water and mash it.
  • Soak tamrind and extract 1 cup of tamrind water.
  • Make puree with one slice of pineapple and keep ready.
  • Now in a vessel add tamrind extract,turmeric powder,salt,curry leaves,pineapple puree, Pineapple cut into small pieces,rasam powder and allow the mixture to boil for 5 mins.
  • Add 2-3 drops of pineapple essence.
  • Now add toor dhal mixture and boil it.
  • Finally add fresh coriander and switch off the flame.
  • Now temper it with items given under 'to temper'.
  • Serve with steaming rice and pappad.








Notes:

  • Adding pineapple essence is optional.
  • Red chilli in tempering is also optional.
